Three Little Pigs
by John Davies
Supported by a grant from The Melba Bayers Meyer Charitable Trust
An opera for elementary school students, ages 3 through 5th grade

Pensacola Opera proudly presents The Three Little Pigs, the opera, as its spring educational touring production!  Designed specifically for elementary school students, Three Little Pigs tells the story of the children’s literary classic. The opera is based on scenes from four operas by classical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This program exposes children to the magic of live opera combined with a positive message on reading and attending school regularly. Considering this, The Three Little Pigs is an excellent opportunity for students, educators and community groups alike!

Three Little Pigs will tour January 25 through April 4, 2012. To reserve your performance, contact our Director of Education, Chandra McKern at (850) 433-6737 or chandra@pensacolaopera.com.

From Words to Music

Pensacola Opera’s unique long-term classroom program, From Words to Music brings arts teachers and classroom teachers together to help their students write and produce an opera using a book they’re studying in class. Over the course of a year, classes are visited by our Education Director, Teaching Artists, and Artists in Residence as they learn about operatic structure, improvisation, and creative thinking. The program culminates in a performance of their very own opera for their classmates, friends and family. Students involved in From Words to Music show a marked increase in the reading comprehension, creative thinking, and social skills after the project.

To learn more about the schools involved in From Words to Music, or about having your school involved in future years, contact Chandra McKern at (850) 433-6737 or chandra@pensacolaopera.com.
